I bought this product to shoot packaged food items for my website business. From the beginning, there were problems. The assembly instructions were confusing, the box came with items I didn’t need and items missing that I DID need, causing me to run to the hardware store more than once. The advertising failed to mention I would also need to invest in a tripod. There were no helpful shooting tips enclosed in the box (I only received these after contacting the manufacturer and they made only a negligible difference compared to what I had already shot). Worst of all, the photos are unsatisfactory. The background is gray and murky, and it can only really be corrected by using Photoshop, which undermines the point of buying this product, which should be enough as is. As a start-up entrepreneur, I regret spending more than $400 and wasting too much of my time correcting photos.

The background piece arrived with scratches and one corner with a huge “ding”. It is a fairly good product but I will have to repaint the background to correct the surface damaged in shipping.

I recently purchased the MyStudio20 from Amazon. I am pleased I made that decision. The results I’m getting are better than I had hoped. Great product, demos, and tips guide. You can’t go wrong.

This MyStudio kit is a great tool for anyone looking to improve their product photography. It provides flexibility in lighting and rather pleasing results. Ultimately, I think that it provides more benefit for someone that only has a point and shoot camera and not a prosumer level dSLR.

Since most of the benefits have already been spelled out in the other reviews, these are some of my brief observations:

    * The MS20 can be a bit too small for certain objects. You may want to consider the larger models.

    * It takes up a decent amount of storage space. The light unit and the unfoldable background make this kit hard to store in a small apartment space. It’s something that needs to be considered, especially with the larger models.

    * With a little bit of skill and practice, you can get equivalent results using a bounce flash instead. Normally, I use a bedsheet to provide a light background and a strong flash with a bounce head to provide the diffuse light. You can get one of these flashes for about the same amount as this kit costs. It takes up much less space and is portable. It does require a camera with an external flash mount, however. So if all you have is a P&S, the MyStudio is probably your best option.
